Business Restoration Assistance Program
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has signed Senate Substitute for HB 2540, which creates a $5 million Business Restoration Assistance Program for businesses in Kiowa County damaged by the May 4 storm. The relief bill also includes a sales tax exemption for items and services purchased to construct, reconstruct, enlarge or remodel a business facility (including agricultural fencing) within Kiowa County.
Other disaster assistance programs depend on the return to the Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan application. Completing this application can help residents become eligible for other state and federal assistance programs. Eligibility for these programs ends if the SBA application is not completed and returned to SBA. If an applicant receives a referral from FEMA to SBA, they should complete and return the disaster loan application to SBA as soon as possible, even if they are not sure if if they will need a disaster loan. SBA representatives are available for consultation by calling 800-659-2955.
